A key part of the SAMARCH project is to gather information on the timing, movements and survival rates of salmon and sea trout smolts through the Frome and Tamar estuaries in the south of England and Bresle and Scorff estuaries in northern France.
After much hard work in deploying around 50 receivers into the 4 lower rivers and estuaries in December – February. The process of tagging the fish with acoustic tags began in late March and was completed by early May. Some 400 smolts were tagged in total.
